An uncommon medium to large oval-rounded tree with large 5- to 7-lobed leaves and stems armed with 1/4" long prickles.

Habit:	In youth, upright oval; with age rounded, bold and impressive
Size:	40 to 60' high, possibly larger
Color:	Medium-dark green in summer
Texture:	Coarse in all seasons
Hardiness:	Zone 5a USDA
Habitat:	Japan, Korea and China
Family:	Araliaceae
