Small and creamy white with a somewhat unpleasant odor, the slightly showy flowers are borne in 7/8 to 1 1/4" long axillary panicles in early to mid June. The individual flowers are about 1/2"-long with a 4-lobed corolla. The pubescent calyx and pedicels distinguish this species from the more glabrous flowers of Ligustrum amurense. Plants that have been sheared or hedged, have greatly reduced flower displays.
