| Ligustrum vulgare
Common privetBorne in terminal clusters, the small and creamy white flowers are borne in June with a somewhat unpleasant odor. The slightly showy flowers are borne in 1 to 2 1/4" panicles with individual flowers that are about 1/2" long with a 4-lobed corolla. The corolla tube which is equal to or slightly shorter than the lobes of the flowers, is much shorter than the corolla tubes of Ligustrum amurense and Ligustrum obtusifolium which are 2-3 times as long as the lobes. The terminally borne clusters also differ from the axillary panicles borne on the two above species. Plants that have been sheared or hedged, have greatly reduced flower displays. |
