Liquidambar styraciflua
American sweetgum

The lustrous dark green leaves are simple and borne alternately along the stem, with fine uniform serrations along the 5 lobes of the 4-6" star-shaped leaves. The depth of the sinuses between the lobes varies with the time of the year they are produced, with the leaves at the stem apex having deeper sinuses than those produced earlier in the year.
