Maclura pomifera
Osage-orange,Hedge apple

Borne only on female trees only, the yellow-green 3 - 5 1/2"-diameter fruit are a syncarp of drupes, maturing in September to October. Fully mature fruits turn orange in color, although they often fall before they reach the orange stage. They are wrinkled on the surface -- when I was younger we used to call them "brain-fruit" for this reason. The large size of these fruits constitutes a maintenance nuisance and possibly a projectile hazard.
