Malus x 'Zumi' var. calocarpa
Redbud zumi flowering crabapple

Culture: Like other crabapples, this species should be grown in full sun with a moist, well-drained and acidic to neutral soil. It transplants rather easily.

Reports are variable on this selection. Fiala reports good resistance to the major diseases, while Dirr reports slight susceptibility to scab and good resistance to severe susceptibility to fireblight. This variation may be due to genetic variation of plants that were propagated by seed.

Usage: Because of the potential for variablility, both in disease susceptibility and ornamental characteristics, when propagated by seed, buyers should specify only asexually propagated plant material obtained from a known source.
