Opposite, simple and serrate, the dark green, fine-textured leaves are linear oblong, 1/2 - 1" long, 3/16" wide and serrulate above the middle with the margins rolled downward. They are dark and highly glossy green in summer, remaining that way with good snow cover or turning bronze if exposed to cold winter temperatures.
