Pieris japonica
Japanese pieris

Alternate, simple and narrow elliptic to oblanceolate, the evergreen foliage is dark green, glossy, and has crenate-serrate margins. The leaves are clustered at the ends of the stems, appearing almost whorled. The new foliage in spring ranges from bright red to reddish purple in color, fading to bronze and finally green. The new foliage contrasts nicely with the older green foliage. Even without flowers, the attractive foliage makes this an interesting plant in all seasons.
