Pieris japonica
Japanese pieris

The 1/4" flowers are white, fragrant, and urn-shaped, appearing in mid to late March in 2 1/2 - 5" pendulous panicles. They remain effective for 2-3 weeks. The individual flowers have petals fused into a corolla with 5 small free tips at the apex. The pendulous nature of the panicles distinguishes this species from the upright panicles of Pieris floribunda. Heavy displays often produce a cascading effect on the plant.
