| Pinus virginiana Scrub pine,Virgina pineCulture: Considered to be a tough performer, this species performs best on well-drained clay or sandy loam in open, sunny, exposed and infertile areas where other pines will not grow. It requires acidic to neutral soils and does not perform well in alkaline sites. Although usually fairly free of disease, the species has some problems with needle miners, sawflies, pine tip moths and pine twig gall. Usage: Although the species is rarely used as an ornamental plant, it is used for soil reclamation or for the Christmas tree industry in the Southeast. |
