| Potentilla fruticosa Bush cinquefoil,PotentillaCulture: This species is easy to transplant, pH adaptable and generally easy to grow if provided with a cool moist location. The bush cinquefoil grows well in full sun in cool northern climates, but requires partial shade in most parts of Illinois. Plants should be renewal pruned regularly in late winter but can be cut to the ground if flattened by snow. Minor problems with spider mites, powdery mildew and leaf spots will occasionally be encountered, but generally the plant is fairly trouble free. Usage: Because of its small size and long-lasting flower display, this species is commonly used in the front of landscape beds in masses, as an edging or as a facer plant. Appropriate selection of one of the well over 100 cultivars found in the trade is based upon plant size, habit, flower color, quality and duration of the flower display and texture.
