Prunus glandulosa
Dwarf flowering almond

Culture: Like other cherries, this plant should be grown in full sun in an acidic to neutral soils in moist to average dry sites. If too straggly, plants can be renewal pruned or rejuvenated. If all stems are removed in winter, the plant will not flower in the following spring because flower buds are produced in the previous season. See Prunus culture.

Flint reports problems with borers in the South and mice damage in the North.

Usage: This single-season-of-interest species is grown exclusively for its showy pink or white flowers. The rest of the year, it has little to offer. Several double white or pink flowered cultivars are available. It is commonly used in the front of shrub borders and in small masses.
