A very delicate and beautiful light pink, the heavily borne flowers of this species are single, 1 - 1 1/2" in diameter and open just before the leaves in early to mid April in central Illinois. The flowers contain 5 slightly obovate and emarginate petals and numerous stamens with yellow anthers and white filaments. The cloud-like display of flowers is usually fairly brief, lasting less than one week.
