Quercus acutissima
Sawtooth oak

Culture: Although developing only into a medium-sized tree this species grows fairly quickly when young. It can be grown in a variety of sites but needs to have either acidic or neutral soils. It may develop chlorosis on alkaline soils.

Sawtooth Oak has few insect and disease pest problems but its use is limited in the upper Midwest by its lack of cold hardiness.

Usage: The smaller stature of this oak makes it useful in smaller landscapes as a shade or specimen tree. Like other oaks, the acorns will attract squirrels and other wildlife.
