Rhododendron schlippenbachii
Royal azalea

Culture: A noteworthy feature of this species is its abililty to survive in near neutral soil pH; however it will perform better in acidic soils. Being marginally hardy in parts of the Midwest, locate with good wind protection. Like other members of this genus and family, this species requires well-drained soils. It performs best in partial shade but will tolerate full sun if adequate moisture is available.

Usage: This species makes excellent specimens, either alone or in masses and can provide a tremendous addition to the shrub border or can be used nicely for naturalizing purposes.
