Rhus aromatica
Fragrant sumac

This species is most easily recognized in the winter for its terminally borne male catkins which are 1/4-1/2" long with a highly imbricate scale arrangement and brown coloration. Vegetative buds are very small, tan in color, pubescent and partially covered by the leaf scar.
