Rhus aromatica
Fragrant sumac

Culture: Fragrant sumac is a very adaptable plant. It is easy to transplant and will grow in full sun to moderate shade and in poor to good soils that are either acid or alkaline. Since it occurs natively on dry gravely banks, this species can tolerate very dry sites.

Although a variety of minor problems can occur such as leaf spots, rust, mildew or canker, this species is generally trouble-free.

Usage: Because of its adaptability, size and ability to sucker, it is frequently used as a ground cover or as a fast cover for banks, along grade cuts and fills. The compact form "Gro-low' is more commonly sold than the species.
