The leaves are alternate and pinnately compound with 5-7 or rarely 9 leaflets. The leaflets are elliptic to obovate-oblong, 3/4 - 2" long, coarsely serrate, dull blue green and slightly puberulous. The lower leaflets are 1/2 to 2/3rds the size of the upper ones. The leaflets have a rounded to obtuse apex and a wedge-shaped base. The sharp serrations run from the tip to just below the middle of the leaflets.
