Sequoiadendron giganteum
Giant sequoia

The insignificant monoecious flowers are produced in early spring. Male cones are 1/4"-long oval masses of rounded stamens. Female cones are about 1/2" long, oblong in shape with yellow scales and occur near the tips of branches in the upper portion of the tree. Young trees may not achieve flowering for many decades.
