Sequoia sempervirens
California redwood

The oval to globose cones are 3/4 - 1" long, brownish-black in color, pendulous, and occur on very short shoots. The cones ripen in the first year and have 12-20 scales. The very small slightly winged seeds are only 1/10" long.
