Spiraea x vanhouttei
Vanhoutte spirea

Spectacular in their appearance, the small 5/16" 5-petaled flowers are borne in rounded dome-shaped umbels approximately 1 1 " in diameter. The umbels are borne extremely heavily above the foliage, completely covering the branches beginning in late April to early May in central Illinois. The added weight of the flowers provides a sensational cascading effect. Typical displays last about 2 weeks.
