Acer saccharum subsp. nigrum
Black maple

Bearing a close resemblance to the species, this variety differs physically by its darker green leaves with drooping outer leaf lobes and the nearly black bark. Supposedly, it also exhibits greater heat and drought tolerance and has a yellow fall color that develops about two weeks later than the species.
