One of several trifoliate maples, three-flowered maple produces opposite, 3-parted leaves with a few coarse, irregular serrations. The leaflets are 2-3" long and ovate-elliptic. The serrations on the leaflets are much smaller than those on A. griseum, the leaflets as a whole are narrower toward the apex, and the petioles and leaf blade undersides are less pubescent.
