Chaenomeles japonica
Japanese flowering quince

Culture: Transplants easily and is adaptable to a wide range of soil types. Flowering is best in full sun. Prune to the ground every 3 to 5 years to improve its appearance.

Leaf spot may cause some problems. Aphids and mites are often found on this plant.

Usage: Quince is a single season plant. It has bright colored flowers for 2 weeks in the spring and looks unkempt the rest of the year. It can sucker and spread, taking up precious garden space. Attempts at pruning this plant require protection from the hidden spines. Avoid this litter grabbing plant.
