Chaenomeles speciosa
Common flowering quince

Stems are slender, greenish brown turning reddish brown, and spiny, with 1/2 - 3/4" thorns at 60 to 70 degrees, divergent. The thorns on this species are slightly longer and more narrowly divergent than those of Chaenomeles japonica.
