Cornus florida
Flowering dogwood

Clusters of shiny bright red drupes ripen in September and persist until the birds discover them. The oval shaped drupes are 1/3 - 1/2" long and are borne in clusters of 3 to 10. They are slightly effective from a distance but are best viewed up close.
