Corylus maxima 'Purpurea'
Purple-leaved European filbert

Dark maroon-purple in early spring, the broad-elliptic to suborbicular leaves are 2-5" long and have slightly lobed and serrate margins. The leaves gradually fade to a purplish green by mid-summer. By late summer the purple case is only slightly visible.
