Diospyros virginiana
Common persimmon

The fruit is a fibrous, pale orange, sweet edible berry that is about 1" in diameter. Commonly said to be best eaten after a hard freeze, the fruits are ready to eat any time when they become soft and wrinkled. If they are eaten when firm, the fruits are highly astringent. Care should be taken not to eat large quantities of this fruit due to the highly fibrous nature of the fruit that can block digestive systems.
