Larix laricina
Tamarack

The young terminal stems are thin, yellowish brown in color and slightly ridged with the decurrent bases of the singly borne needles. Two-year-old stems are more deeply ridged by the old leaf bases and bear large numbers of small gray spurs. Numerous spurs are formed on older growth.
