Lonicera fragrantissima
Winter honeysuckle

Culture: This species is adapted to many soils and pH levels, although they dislike extremely wet conditions. They should be grown from full sun to part shade. If the plants become overgrown, they can be either renewal pruned or cut to the ground to rejuvenate them. Although not an escape threat in the Midwest, Flint reports some escape problems in the South.

This species is relatively trouble-free and is resistant to the Russian Aphid.

Usage: The Winter honeysuckle can be used as part of the shrub border, as a loosely sheared hedge or as a screening plant. Other than flower fragrance, this species offers little to the landscape. This species might best be located where its fragrance can be noticed.
