| Magnolia macrophylla Bigleaf magnoliaCulture: This species should be grown in full sun in an area well-protected from winds to avoid leaf tatter. It is difficult to transplant and needs moist well-drained soils that are acidic to neutral. Planting this species on dry, open and windy sites will result in great disappointment. Other than problems with wind, this species is relatively problem free. Usage: Because of the coarse texture of the leaves and stems, this species is best used in large sites where its coarse texture can more readily fit the scale of the landscape. When properly sited and grown, this species can form a beautiful specimen. |
