Magnolia macrophylla
Bigleaf magnolia

Very large and 8 to 12" across, the fragrant flowers bear 6 large white inner tepals and 3 small greenish outer tepals. The largest flowers have been reported at 18" in diameter by Dorothy Callaway. The large inner tepals are 3-8" long, white, irregularly-ovate in shape and twisted with purple blotches (inner 3 tepals) inside at their base. The flowers are borne solitary at the ends of branches in June.
