Magnolia stellata
Star magnolia

Culture: This species prefers a rich moist soil with an acidic to neutral soil in full sun. It is transplanted balled and burlapped or from containers due to the fleshy root system and lack of root hairs. Plants should be located on eastern or northern exposures to slow flower opening and should be sited in an area with wind protection for the benefit of the flower display.

This species has few problems in the landscape.

Usage: This species makes an excellent specimen plant, either singly or in small groups or as part of a large shrub border. Its early spring flowers can be very welcome lead-in to spring when located next to a patio or sidewalk.
