Magnolia virginiana
Sweetbay magnolia

Creamy white and lemon scented, the 2 1/2 - 4"-diameter flowers are produced beginning in June (central Illinois) with 9-12 obovate tepals. The trees will continue to sporadically produce a few flowers at a time into September. Although the flowers are not produced in great abundance at any one time, they still add ornamental value to the plant.
