Slender, moderate in length and brittle, the 4-6" serrulate evergreen needles are borne two per fascicle, and are tufted near the branch ends. They are twisted once along their long axis and break cleanly when bent sharply. The needles persist for 4 years while the 3/4" leaf sheaths fall in their second year.
