White poplar

Interesting and grayish white to grayish green in youth, the bark gradually becomes increasingly roughened by enlarging gray diamond-shaped lenticels in middle age and ultimately turns dark gray and becomes deeply ridged and furrowed with age. The young bark on some specimens can rival that of some white-barked birches.
