Prunus maackii

Prunus maackii
Amur chokecherry

Culture: Best if grown in cool Northern climates, this species prefers full sun with acidic and well-drained soils. It does not thrive in hot climates.

Unfortunately this species is quite subject to borers in warm climates. The further north the plant is grown, the better the specimens look. Other than borers, this species is reasonably trouble-free.

Usage: The Amur chokecherry makes an interesting specimen or small shade tree if placed where the bark can be easily seen. Because of its cold hardiness it could be used in planters providing the climate is cool.
