Rhododendron mucronulatum
Korean rhododendron

Culture: This species needs partial shade in moist but well-drained soils that are acidic. Locate the plant on sheltered northern or eastern exposures to slightly delay early spring flowering and thus lessen the likelihood of frost damage to the flowers. See Rhododendron catawbiense for more complete information on culture of this genus.

Usage: The Korean rhododendron makes a nice small grouping as part of a shrub border or a foundation plant, providing the cultural conditions are favorable. It is best placed in front of a dark evergreen background to help show off the flowers.
