| Rhus copallina Flame sumacDistinctive for its very glossy pinnately compound leaves with a winged rachis, the leaves have 9-21 (frequently around 13) lanceolate leaflets that are 1 1/2 to 4" long and lanceolate. Leaflets are mostly entire or with occasional small serrations near the apex. The rachis wings are green and leaf-like and about 1/8" wide. Fine brown pubescence covers the underside of the leaflets, rachis and petiole. The highly glossy upper leaf surface and indistinct serrations differentiate this species from Rhus chinensis. |
