Borne in flattened alternate branchlets, the linear leaves are 1/3-3/4" long, two ranked and deciduous. They emerge bright green late in the spring turning to a slightly grayish medium green over the summer. The entire branchlets drop as a unit in the fall. These leaves look similar to those of Metasequoia glyptostroboides but are slightly shorter and the branchlets are less neatly arrayed on the stems.
