The vegetative buds are naked, foliose, and gray tomentose with a length of ½ - ¾". The flower buds resemble those of Viburnum carlesii but are slightly larger, coarser, more gray and appear to be one solid mass as compared to the clustered appearance on Viburnum carlesii.
