Viburnum lantana
Wayfaringtree viburnum

Culture: Unlike most other viburnums, Viburnum lantana can tolerate dry and alkaline soils, making it a good selection for Midwest gardens. The Wayfaringtree viburnum is easy to transplant and tolerates sun to partial shade, but prefers well drained soil.

[ITALIC] This species is not generally affected by serious insect or disease problems.

Viburnum lantana is a multi-purpose shrub. It makes an attractive screen or hedge, a nice addition to the shrub border, or it may be massed or used as a specimen. There are many cultivars available. 'Mohican' is a compact form, growing to 8', that has orange-red fruits that are ornamental for a month or more. 'Aureum' has young stems that are golden yellow turning green and also grows to 8'. 'Rugosum' has larger, rugose leaves that are darker green than the species, as well as larger flowers. 'Variegatum' has leaves with yellow variegation.
