Amelanchier stolonifera
Running serviceberry

There appears to be some confusion regarding the value of fall coloration on this species. Krussman calls it A. obovalis and gives it little landscape value with a yellow fall color. An article by Bruce Cubberly and Ed Hasselkus in a 1987 copy of American Nurseryman states that this species has orange fall color, but I have seen specimens with brilliant red fall coloration as well. It appears that the species is either consistently confused with A. humilis (which has a more yellowish color), or that there is a great deal of variation in autumn coloration. Showiness would range from moderate to exceptional.
