Cornus alba
Tatarian dogwood

The young stems are green and lightly pubescent at their apex,

turning a deep red in winter with large white-gray lenticels. Just below the

apex, the winter stems are glabrous, and a glossy red. The pith color is white.

Stem growth at the base of the plant turns grayish as it ages, thus the removal

of older stems enhances the winter interest.
