Cornus alba
Tatarian dogwood

Culture: This fibrous rooted plant is easy to transplant and is adaptable

and easy to grow. It prefers full sun to partial shade. The red-stemmed

dogwood species are difficult to separate in winter. The stems of this species

are distinctly ascending and do not lay on the ground as is the case with the

outer stems of Cornus sericea.

Several leaf spots, stem canker and borers are common on this plant.

Infestations of stem canker or borers can ruin a planting.

Usage: The tatarian dogwood is not usually used as a specimen plant but is

useful in groupings near ponds or in the back of the shrub border and is often

used as a hedge plant. It is attractive in winter but its summer flowers and

fruits are less interesting.
