Alternate, simple and suborbicular to very broad ovate, the 1-3" leaves have a finely crenate and glandular serrate margin. The leaf apex is short acuminate while the base is rounded to nearly truncate. The flattened petiole allows the leaves to flutter with the slightest breeze, hence the common and scientific names. The medium green upper surface contrasts noticeably with the pale green undersides as the leaves flutter in the wind.
