Prunus persica
Common peach

The classic and delicious peach, the large drupes of this species are 2-3" in diameter, juicy, sweet tasting and pubescent. Their color ranges from yellow to peach or deep red, although they are not formed on double flowered cultivars. From my perspective, no fruit on earth can match the quality of a tree-ripened peach! Fruiting cultivars should not be planted unless you are prepared to spray for diseases and insects. In the absence of such intensive culture, the fruits will make a considerable mess.
