Prunus serrulata

Prunus serrulata
Oriental cherry

White or pink and single, semi-double or double, the sometimes fragrant flowers open from late April to early May and produce a spectacular display. Although nice, the species form is not commonly available because cultivars with double pink flowers are most commonly cultivated. The species has flowers from 1 1/4 - 1 1/2" in diameter while some of the double forms have flowers up to 2 1/2" in diameter. A pleasant fragrance makes some cultivars more desirable than those without. Flowers occur just before or with new leaves.
