Alternate, simple and 1 1/2 - 4 1/2" long, the slightly glossy dark green leaves are obovate to sometimes broad-elliptic and glabrous except for a few hairs on the veins below. The leaf apices are abruptly acuminate while the bases are rounded to broadly cuneate with margins finely serrulate and sometimes slightly bristle tipped serrations. The blades are broader than those of Prunus serotina.
