| Liriodendron tulipifera Tuliptree,Yellow poplarAlternate, simple and tulip-shaped, the 3-8" long leaves are entire and bright green with a pale underside. The leaf base is truncate, while the apex can either be truncate or broadly notched. The blade has 2 acuminate lobes at the apex and one pair of large lobes near the base, with a smaller second basal pair sometimes possible. Early in the season, the leaves often have a pair of 1" oblong green stipules borne at the base of each petiole. These deciduous stipules fall by late spring, leaving a circular scar around the stem at each node. |
